Sustainable ideas for you
Are you looking for cutlery, bowls or decorative items that create a feel-good atmosphere in your home? At the same time, do you pay attention to sustainability when buying? Yes, we as consumers want more sustainability in everyday life. We think more about the products we use. We ask ourselves where they come from and what resources are used in their production. So welcome to our shop. Because here you will find products that are made from natural, renewable raw materials. And not only that. For the production of our Coconut Bowls, we use materials that would otherwise be incinerated. How exactly does that work? We tell you the story of our products here.
It all starts in Fiji. This group of islands in the Southwest Pacific is known for its beautiful, kilometre-long sandy beaches, crystal-clear water and unique flora and fauna. And yes, when we think of this little paradise in the tropics, we immediately think of coconut palms. And these are not only perfect shade providers on the dream beaches, but have been a source of food and raw materials for many years. Coconuts, the fruit of the coconut palm, have been on the islanders' menu for many years. The liquid content is often drunk as coconut water or coconut juice. It provides valuable minerals and is the perfect thirst quencher not only in hot temperatures. The juice has only little sugar and few calories and can therefore be drunk in larger quantities without any problems. Food made from coconuts can now also be found on our supermarket shelves. We use grated coconut or coconut flour for baking just as much as the inhabitants of Fiji.
Incredibly versatile!
In addition, coconut oil or coconut milk is used as vegetable fat for frying or deep-frying. Even the confectionery industry has discovered coconut oil as an ecological alternative. Instead of palm oil, a vegetable fat for the extraction of which huge palm oil plantations are used, many manufacturers now use coconut oil. This is because an enormous amount of rainforest is cleared for the production of palm oil, which has to give way irretrievably as the home of many plants and animals. In the process, not only is valuable habitat lost, but our climate also suffers. This is because rainforests absorb CO2, which is thus not emitted into the earth's atmosphere.
For us, however, coconut palms are not interesting as a source of food, but as a supplier of raw materials. For we do not use the contents of the coconuts for our products, but the coconut shells. And we use them by hand to create beautiful and practical bowls, our Coconut Bowls. This is because excess coconut shells are usually burnt. This, similar to burning wood, is associated with CO2 emissions. We want to avoid this and recycle the shells into bowls or candles.
The production of our products
How are our Coconut Bowls made? First, the shells are completely hollowed out. This creates a practical bowl. The original round shape is preserved. The Coconut Bowls are available in different sizes. The "Medium Sized Original Bowl" is the most common model, which is mainly used for salads or curries. You can enjoy smoothies and refreshing drinks from the somewhat higher "Original Bowl" with straw.
We also use the principle of recycling coconut shells to make candles. We make small holes in the hollowed-out shells and then use them as tea light holders. Our range also includes coconut shells filled with coconut wax. Here we combine two raw materials that are available in abundance. And here, too, we live the idea of sustainability. Because the coconut wax not only burns long and evenly. It is much gentler to produce than candles with paraffin wax.
Sustainable consumption does not have to be complicated. If you make sure when shopping that natural raw materials are used for production, you protect nature and the climate. If raw materials can be used that would otherwise end up in the rubbish or be burned, then this is all the better.
